About the event

Do you like being outdoors in nature?
Do you find being in nature calming & restorative?
Would you like to deepen those feelings?

If so, then coming to our introduction to Forest Bathing (Shinrin Yoku) session could be for you…

What is forest bathing?

Forest Bathing has its roots in Shinto and Buddhist traditions and was developed in Japan in the 1980’s as a way of helping the increasing number of workers with chronic stress. Naming this practice” Shinrin-Yoku”, Japan has created over 64 official “Forest Therapy trails” since it’s conception, and the practice has since spread all over the world.

During this 2-hour session you will be led by local Forest Bathing Guide Calvin Silvester (Certified through Nadur and Mind Hillingdon) who will help you to learn how to immerse yourself and connect with nature by utilising as many of your senses as you can through a series of activities called “invitations”.

The session is designed to slow you down, becoming more aware and mindful of the joy of our natural surroundings and really bathing in the smells, sights, sounds and taste of nature. Noticing and really taking in the small things we can miss on walks or hikes. The session ends with a tea ceremony where we celebrate nature and our reciprocal relationship and share our experiences.

Studies have shown forest bathing can help to: -

  • Increase feelings of relaxation
  • Reduce symptoms of stress, & anxiety
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improve focus, concentration, and memory
  • Boost the immune system

As well as many other evidenced health benefits.

Once you have developed the skills and techniques of forest bathing, you can experience the effects anywhere, as nature is all around us, in your local park, in your garden or whilst sitting in traffic in a car and focusing on trees on a roundabout. This session runs on a monthly basis with different themes each month!

The walk will be no longer than 1 mile, but as you’ll be outside for up to 2 hours, you’ll need to bring with you-

  • Suitable strong & comfortable footwear
  • Waterproof jacket - if rain is possible
  • Layer up - if cold
  • Some snacks

Sit mats are provided for the session, and everyone receives a free gift to give back to nature!
