Work for us

We can create a wilder Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, but we can't do it alone.

For more than 60 years the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) has protected local wildlife and inspired people to love nature.

We are the region’s largest voluntary organisation concerned with all aspects of nature conservation, and we’re still growing. This means we need more excellent people who share our ambitions.

We understand that work is just one part of life, so we’re all about being flexible and making sure your job fits around you - not the other way around.

BBOWT is only as good as the people who work here. Take a look through our vacancies, see what we have to offer, and we hope to hear from you soon.

My childhood love for wildlife was strengthened by joining the Young Rangers Club at the Nature Discovery Centre in Berkshire. A part-time Café Assistant role at the centre as a 17-year-old led to Assistant Centre Manager at 20 and I was Manager by 22!

As Visitor Operations Manager, I combined passion with leadership, fostering connections between our visitors and nature. It was a journey of growth, from serving coffee to steering a team, always driven by my belief in the fantastic work that BBOWT does. Working for BBOWT encouraged me to be bold with my professional development, which was always supported by dedicated colleagues.

My journey with BBOWT began in 2023 as a Wildlife Trainee at Greenham Common, where I jumped straight into hands-on conservation work. I soon moved on to a Seasonal Warden role, gaining valuable field experience and connecting with local wildlife and people.

By September 2024, I was working as a Reserves Officer in East Berkshire, where I now manage a variety of nature reserves. Every day brings something new – from learning about livestock to mastering trailer driving. BBOWT has fuelled my growth, giving me the skills and confidence to take on challenges while working to protect the landscapes I love.

The traineeship changed my life and I recommend it to everyone interested in conservation!

How we recruit

Our recruitment process might look a bit different: instead of CVs and cover letters, you’ll answer a few questions online that reflect the skills and tasks for the role. This approach helps reduce bias, increases diversity, and lets us focus on finding the best candidates.

Your answers are anonymised, randomised, and scored by a panel to keep things fair. We also ask for optional background info, which is anonymised and used only to improve our equal opportunity efforts. Plus, every applicant hears back from us!

Equality, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EEDI)

No one should miss out on opportunities because of characteristics that make them unique. That's why we're doing everything we can to make sure BBOWT is a truly inclusive place to work.

We want every candidate to have the best chance of success. For this, we know that some candidates will need reasonable adjustments.

Adjustments could include us providing questions in an alternative format and providing extra time for assessments. We are also very happy to make adjustments at interview, which could include aspects such as lighting, physical access or simply making us aware when you arrive where it would be best for you to sit. If you have any queries at all, please contact recruitment@bbowt.org.uk.

We want our people to be as diverse as nature, so we particularly encourage applications from people who are underserved within the communities in which we operate. This includes people from visible ethnic minority backgrounds, people with disabilities (including those who are neurodivergent), the LGBTQ+ community, those from lower socio-economic backgrounds, and younger people. We are committed to creating an organisation that recognises and truly values individual differences and identities.
